Downton Abbey redux
Season 3 is here! Yippee! and just at the right time. I don't know how to say this without sounding selfish, but I am a closet Downton watcher. Hence why, therefore, tis is the best time of year for the much awaited roll out. It's January! Boats are out of the water, tourists and our guests are here to eat and eat well, or should I say 'dine well'. That means we have mutual intentions at the inn and that's just grand with me.
My day starts as I cook breakfast, or should I say breakfast is 'pre-pared'. And of course served in the breakfast room, (fortunately, that's all I have).... Carlson has measured my place settings, Oh there he is:
...Something is smoked, and goodness knows where the fruit comes from. You see I am Mrs. Hughes with Daisy and Ms. Patmore cooking away in the kitchen, that fits somewhere. But!! I haven't taken the quiz yet! Oh you know the Masterpiece quiz, to see which character I would be....I shall dream instead, As I could wake up and be Mrs. O'Brien and spoil everything by having a bad hair day....
Well to move on after that exhausting morning dining on deviled eggs and truffles of some sort my guests can relax and think about their evening repasse. After all you don't hear much about lunch at Downton, it usually rolls right into tea. Oh yes, I have that, it's called 'afternoon treats' but perhaps I should rethink the name...high or lo tea?. Never mind, as that's just to bide time until the carriage arrives, (well we usually walk here) for dinner..But wait, first a test of etiquette before I send you off...
WHEN at the dinner table, which of the following is proper behavior? (select all that apply) a. Resting one's elbows on the table, b. Passing food to the left. c. After a delicious meal, pushing away one's plate and/or d. Upon finishing a meal, placing a napkin on one's plate...
First let me say, I won't sic Carlson on you if you demonstrate this ill behaviour at the Inn, but to save you from future embarrassment the answer is A, and that's only sometimes! Who knew! Now what do you do with the napkin??? And what if no one is sitting on your right..Oh that could present a problem.
