Spring is in the Air!
It was so nice to see a Main Street Parade, complete with firetrucks, dogs, first responders etc. And the spectators were a flood of green. The bandstand was a pick up truck of some sort complete with the Mayor, State Senator etc. attired in green as well. What was even more special about this event was that it was planned only a month or so ago, and it was the first annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Annapolis. Who knew!? And a very generous offer was made by a Main Street Bar, which was that they would pay any difference if the parade didn't pay for itself. How nice! I think it also helped that the weather was in the sixties, with Spring definately in the air. Having a Bed & Breakfast, I want Annapolis to be recognized as a tourist attraction and there are multitudes of reasons for that. But when I walk around and see the man selling flowers in front of Reynolds Tavern, or the stately city Post Office on State Circle, and yes those old fashioned mailboxes, I'm reminded that it is so nice to have this small town atmosphere as well. One last thought..I was walking to the bank, and as always I pay attention to the cross guard who is assigned at the intersection where St. Mary's kids leave the school. I waited with the kids and as all kids are, they were silly and talking and stepping around, and sure enough that cross guard, stopped what he was doing, came over and gave those kids a talking to! He told them 'this isn't the first time I told you guys to pay attention and stay on the sidewalk.' They looked at him with that little impish grin...He had their safety first and foremost in his mind, and I smiled. We have not lost that small town.
