Visiting City Dock Coffee at Market Square
In my quest for supporting local business’s it was a ‘no brainer’ as I walked into City Dock Coffee at Market Square, where I was told to ‘go upstairs’ to talk to the manager. Well, let’s just say that it was like walking into history, as meeting Grover, and his wife, for the first time was like visiting an old general store ‘somewhere in time’. He wrote down (no computer seen just yet) my request and gladly suggested we sample his local blends ranging from the legendary Boat Guys blend (strong) to Dillon’s Blend which introduces a mild milk chocolate in the brew…Wow, too much to choose from, but we are serving the Boats Guy Blend as Joe and I are partial to French Roast. And we’ve met Derrick, who personally delivers our coffee…Grover will call to check in before a busy weekend to see if we have enough….Tells you something about local service. And just to share their philosophy I picked their 3 rules of doing business off their website: And yes, they succeed in doing so.
1. Become the local watering hole. "The place where the locals go".
2. Live by the 70/70 Rule, which states that staff must know 70% of all customer's names or drinks.
3. Develop the Cheers Mentality, which dictates that the style of interaction between staff and customer is more like a friend than a business transaction.
