Maryland General Assembly Commences!
Just when you see the onslaught of grey skies, frigid temperatures, and holiday decorations coming down, and you start wondering as an innkeeper how long will the town hibernate it happens. There first appears annoying parking restriction signs on State Circle reserving spaces for what ?, National and local Television stations?? Then they arrive looking a little lost (the newbies)….the men and women in suits…There appears to be this agreed uniform of long black woolen coats, an attaché in one hand, a brisk gait, hands over mouth when talking in pairs….Could it be the General Assembly has arrived. State Circle is having a party! Local Restaurants are giddy! (Did I mention Harry Browns?). They walk past our Inn with a sense of purpose as they should. This year's agenda, from what I've read, is busy, (minimum wage increase, tax cuts. etc) And to make it more exciting it is an election year, so there will be a lot of political posturing and campaigning. (Did I mention a local pub Galway Bay?). So for those of you not familiar with the Assembly in a nutshell: T he General Assembly is Maryland's legislative body and directly represents the electorate.
